MUMBAI: Singer Rahul Vaidya became a household name after he participated in Indian Idol 1, followed by which he earned name and fame in the industry.
Now, the same show is in its 12th season was wrapped in controversies.
In a recent interview, the singer expressed his opinion on the controversy surrounding Amit Kumar. Reportedly, late singer Kishore Kumar’s son Amit Kumar, who had graced the show on a special episode, had revealed that it's makers had asked him to praise the contestants.
Reacting to this, Rahul praised the contestants, commented the show eventually being made for entertainment. He said, “I am not aware about what the controversies have been regarding Indian Idol 12. I really don’t know what really happens now on the show. I had read somewhere that one of the guests had commented that he was asked to praise the contestants. I feel all the singers on the show are good singers. There’s no denying their talent. Eventually, what happens at the end of the day the show is made from an entertainment point of view. The show is made to make people hear the singers but it also has an entertainment quotient attached to it.”.
Stating if any guest is asked to praise and not criticize any contestant then there is no harm in it, “If any guest judge was asked to praise a contestant and not criticise what is the big deal in that. I don’t know why people are making such a big fuss about it.”.
Speaking about Pawandeep Rajan and Arunita Kanjilal’s romantic angle on the show, he said, “I also heard there was some romantic angle going on in the show, it was done for fun. He was not told to marry the contestant at a gun point. Why such a big deal, the show has been running for the last 6-7 months, and this is done just for entertainment. The show will soon come to an end and the next season will begin and there will be new contestants and the story will move forward. I don’t think it should be taken so seriously.”.

The singer shares unlike his time on the show, now makers also believe in the packaging of the show, “We would go on stage, perform, come back and sit. It was very pure and simple. Now things have changed as everything goes through evolution. That’s how the world functions. Today, it is also about packaging. Uss time ka alag charm tha.., aaj ki kahani alag hai.”.
Indian Idol, which gave Rahul Vaidya name and fame, holds a special place in his heart, he said, “The show is very special for me and it has given me recognition in life. It will always be special for me. Whenever I hear the title track of the show, my heart still starts racing till date. It happens to me because I was just 17 years old when I did that show. The show gave me recognition as a singer. I will always be thankful for that.”.
When asked if he would ever come on board as a judge he replied, “In fact, I would love to be a part of the show. In fact, I was recently asked by the media if I want to be a part of the show as a judge, I said why not? It would be a great journey from a contestant to be a judge on the show.”.
