MUMBAI: George Floyd’s death on May 25, has sparked outrage all over the world. People in the USA hit the streets, protesting against his death and police treatment of black Americans. Meanwhile, people have also taken to social media speaking out against the racial tensions in the US. Nakuul Mehta has aired his views about selective outrage. The actor took to his Instagram and shared a long note which read, “Whilst it's heartening to see so many voices coming out in support of the complete breakdown of the justice system in America, one feels almost compelled to question oneself, do I stand up for what's 'right' when it's convenient to me?” He further added, “Not for a second do I want to indulge in the whole whataboutery about did you stand up for justice before or where were your voices when just a few months back closer home, minorities, and students were targetted and policed or were we there to make token statements about 'buses' being burnt just like today 'malls' are being looted.
He then stated that there never is a right or wrong time to start voicing and standing up for justice. “However it does help to introspect my lack of empathy and privilege when my own business could be affected by the stand I choose to take or ignore!!” he wrote.
Have a look.
