MUMBAI: Nikkiey Chawla recently hosted Pooja Sharma aka Rekha of Mumbai local in her popular chat show Moments with Nikkiey Chawla. The episode received a lot of traction and is proof of how much the viewers liked it. Pooja is a trans woman and is a known face in the local trains of Mumbai. Her beauty, elegance and dance moves have made her a social media star. She even dresses up like actor Rekha.
“The experience of interviewing Pooja was nice. She is down-to-earth and honest. I tune well with people like her. So it was wonderful. Before the show she called me and asked how she would address me, whether she should call me guru. Usually in transgender (kinnar) community you always address those elder to you as guru. I told her that I don’t belong to the kinnar community so she can simply call me didi. She was happy to find a sister in me because she does not have one. She is strong and doesn’t care about what people think of her. Glad that I did this chat with her,” says Nikkiey, India’s first transgender actor and model, who enjoys interacting with real people like Pooja.
“I love connecting with real people because in our industry there is so much glamour but some people are really plastic. Their fake attitude suffocates me. I connect well with real people… The major topic we discussed was love. In today’s time whether it’s men or women or the third gender, love is the emotion that binds us all. Money can be earned by anyone but talking with someone nicely is what matters. I believe in giving love to everyone... I think if love and understanding comes together then everything is possible.”
Nikkiey is also very fond of Rekha. “She has so much elegance and poise. I would love to meet Rekha ma’am and invite her on my show. She is an epitome of class, poise and a lot of talent. After talking to Pooja now I want to meet Rekha ma’am all the more,” she adds.
Talking about the show, she adds, “I am thankful that people are enjoying my show and I would also request them to spread the word about Moments With Nikkiey Chawla. There is a reason why this show should reach out to as many people as possible. My show highlights the plights of people in the LGBTQIA+ community and also addresses the issues women, children and even men face in our society.”
