Twelfth Indian Telly Awards: Continuing TV Programme
In an era where ‘remote rules’ and the audience has a huge bouquet in terms of variety of programs to choose from, there are few shows on Indian television that have managed to keep the viewers glued with its relentless hard work, perseverance and the ability to churn mind-blowing tracks. Yes, we are talking about shows that have been going on for years now, and still manage to have the freshness that can attract viewers of all ages. The Twelfth Indian Telly Awards has nominated a few shows under the category, as the Best Continuing TV Programme. Going alphabetically, Colors’ super-successful show Balika Vadhu –Kachchi Umar Ke Pakke Rishte (Sphere Origins) is the first on our list. A trendsetter in terms of its unique concept, Balika Vadhu (a 1000 club show) which talks of the effects of child marriage in a rural set-up has managed to reap rewards even after years of its launch. Whether it be the younger generation featuring Avika Gor and Avinash Mukherjee, the transformation of the young Anandi into the pretty damsel in distress, played by Pratyusha Banerjee, the introduction of the new guy Siddharth Shukla into the life of Anandi, or be it the replacement of Pratyusha with Toral Rasputra stepping into the shoes of Anandi, every change has indeed proved to be a crowning glory, taking the show to newer heights. Next on the list is Sony TV’s C.I.D. (Fireworks Productions). This crime detective series has created a record of sorts by being the only Indian show to have had a run of over 15 years, and still going strong. CID rules the weekend programming and is watched by people of all ages, starting from the tiny tots to the veterans. Zee TV’s Pavitra Rishta, produced by Balaji Telefilms represents the simple day-to-day life of common middle-class families residing in Mumbai to the ‘T’. The show depicts the love story of Manav and Archana. Having completed its 1000 episodes recently, the show is doing quite well at the TRP charts. Next in line is the popular sitcom on SAB TV, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah (Neela Telefilms). Heralded as the most successful and longest running daily comedy show on Indian television, the series is based on the day-to-day life of people residing in Gokuldham Society, a place which has an integration of people from different parts of India residing in peace and harmony. Last but not the least, there is Star Plus’ Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai (Director’s Kut), another show which has made it to the 1000 episodes club, which speaks of the journey of a woman who falls in love with her husband post her marriage, and the manner in which she adapts to the new household, only to become the ‘apple’ of everybody’s eyes.. Looking at the nominations, it is indeed a tough call to choose one show as all the shows have reached a benchmark in terms of popularity.. May the best soap win the award for being the Best Continuing Programme at the Twelfth Indian Telly Awards.
