MUMBAI: Pahalgam, Kashmir – A tragic afternoon unfolded on Tuesday as militants opened fire on a group of tourists in the picturesque town of Pahalgam, Kashmir, turning what was meant to be a peaceful holiday into a scene of unimaginable horror.
The attack claimed the lives of at least 28 people, including a newlywed naval officer and an intelligence bureau official who had travelled with his family.
The brutality of the incident has left the entire nation in mourning and has sent shockwaves across the globe. Calls for swift justice and uncompromising punishment for the perpetrators have erupted both within India and internationally.
In an exclusive conversation with TellyChakkar, acclaimed actor Sudhanshu Pandey best known for his portrayal of Vanraj in the television series Anupamaa expressed his grief and fury over the massacre, labelling it a "barbaric act" that demands the harshest consequences for those responsible.
“What truly matters right now is that we have lost 30 innocent lives. Among them was a naval officer who had just married, and an intelligence officer on a family holiday,” Pandey said.
He further said, “Justice must be delivered. The militants reportedly asked victims about their religion before killing them. This is beyond inhuman. Such cowards must be taught a lesson. India must not stay silent.”
Sudhanshu, who shared that he attended a military school, added, “There’s a fire in me right now. Had I been there, I feel like going and teaching them a lesson that emotionally hurt, what happened was nothing short of monstrous.”
When asked whether tourism in Kashmir should be halted in the wake of the attack, the actor responded, “Tourism is already suffering in this stunning region. People believed it was safe to visit and then such a heinous act happened. I’m appalled at those who are pointing fingers at the government and security forces. It’s absurd. These brave personnel are humans too, and they are the reason we sleep safely in our homes.”
The actor also raised a pressing concern about possible local involvement. “Let’s not pretend this could have happened without help from within. This was a coordinated assault. Local support was almost certainly involved, and the whole issue has been politicised. Militants entered Pahalgam and executed a planned attack it’s simply not feasible without a network operating from the ground.”
Pandey’s impassioned reaction echoes the sentiments of millions who are demanding justice, accountability, and resolute action.
As the investigation continues, pressure mounts on authorities to not only bring the attackers to justice but to dismantle any support systems that enabled such a horrific act of terror.
The international community, too, watches closely united in grief and demands that those responsible for this senseless massacre be held to account without delay.
