MUMBAI: Mumbai August 06, 2024: Sony SAB's 'Vanshaj' keeps captivating audiences with its exploration of gender roles and inheritance dynamics within a patriarchal society. The series takes an exciting turn as Yuvika’s (Anjali Tatrari) faces a new competitor - the Talwar family who are old archrivals of the Mahajans.

The character of Shalini Talwar (played by Mona Wasu) brings a significant impact to the storyline as an elegant, intelligent, and manipulative matriarch of the Talwar family. Her character holds a deep-seated resentment towards the Mahajans, driven by her belief that they destroyed her family and vows to take revenge on them. On the other hand, she is also an anxious mother who is worried sick about her son Yash Talwar (Shaleen Malhotra) who suffers from a heart ailment. In a candid conversation, Mona Wasu shares her experiences and the complexities of portraying Shalini Talwar, Vanshaj’s popularity, and more.

Can you describe Shalini Talwar’s character and what drew you to this role?
Shalini Talwar is a complex woman who is both strong and vulnerable. She's good at getting what she wants but hides a deep-seated secret. I was drawn to her because she's fascinating and has many different sides to her personality.

How is your character going to impact the rivalry with the Mahajans?
Shalini Talwar’s choices are set to dramatically escalate the rivalry with the Mahajans, making it even more competitive. She'll create more tension and drama between the two families. But the full impact of her actions won't be clear right away. All I can say at this point is that the audience is in for a gripping journey.

Are there any aspects of Shalini’s character that you find particularly challenging or rewarding to portray?
Playing Shalini's constant worry and anxiety about her son’s health is both hard and fulfilling. It's tough to show how scared and upset she is all the time, but it's also rewarding to understand her feelings so deeply. Playing Shalini demands a high level of emotional commitment and so far, it has been a powerful experience.

How does it feel to be part of such a renowned TV show that has been loved by the audience for over a year?
It's exciting to be part of a popular show that people have loved for so long. It's great to know that I'm contributing to something that people enjoy watching. The love and support from the viewers add an extra layer of motivation and excitement. I’m thoroughly enjoying every moment of this incredible journey.

What is your take on the current track? How are these newer twists and turns going to affect the show overall?
I think the show is really exciting right now. The story is getting more dramatic and interesting with each episode. The new surprises will make the show even better and keep people hooked.
