Rahul Bhatia on what’s the secret of a happy marriage: A couple must accept each others’ flaws, and of course love unconditionally

MUMBAI: Anchor, dancer, blogger, actor and entrepreneur Rahul Bhatia’s love story can make for an interesting film script. He met his wife Meenakshi for the first time when making a music video and as they say the rest is history.

“My love life started when I was actually directing a music video. I was casting for the female lead and we received many portfolios, Meenakshi’s was one of them. I liked her profile and approached her but things didn't work out because she was not comfortable doing a few things. So our conversation ended there. We were a part of an art of living community where they teach you meditation, yoga, exercises, so there we met again. Soon we became friends on Facebook and started talking a lot and slowly fell in love,” he shares.

Rahul and Meenakshi tied the knot on November 27 last year. Due to the pandemic, they got married in a simple ceremony. Only close relatives and a few friends were there.

“We were thinking of postponing our marriage because we were thinking there are so many restrictions, many of our relatives and friends won’t be able to attend the ceremony. Thankfully we did not postpone it to April 2021 because the situation is still the same. When things get better we will have a proper celebration, where we will invite everyone. That is the plan,” he adds.

Rahul says that the pandemic has made their love stronger. “Earlier we used to only talk over video calls and voice calls. Now that we are together we are actually getting to know each other more because after marriage many things change. We think that we know each other very well before marriage but when you stay together then you get to know more things about each other, both positive and negative things,” he explains.

The secret to a successful marriage, according to Rahul, is that the man and the woman must accept both the negative and positive sides of each other.

“I’ve many flaws which Meenakshi has accepted and I have done the same for her. We don't want to change anything about each other, we try to understand each other and are always there for one another. We spend maximum time together and are madly in love with each other,” he concludes.
