MUMBAI: Rajkumar Kanojia, celebrated for his impeccable comic timing and layered performances, is adding his unique flair to Rahul Kumar Tewary and Rolling Tales Production's Udne Ki Aasha. Playing the role of Shining Sultan, a butcher (Kasai), Kanojia provides both comic relief and emotional depth to the series.
“Shining Sultan plays himself but tries to get into the skin of the characters he portrays, whether it’s Al Habibi or anything else,” explains Kanojia. “But at the end of the day, he’s still a Kasai. That’s why his language is peppered with phrases like mutton chaap, churbi, gurda, boti boti, and kaleji ki kasam. These quirks add authenticity to his character and make him relatable.”
The character of Sultan is much more than his profession. A die-hard Salman Khan fan, he’s a dreamer with aspirations beyond his immediate reality. His humorous antics are often laced with moments of sincerity. “Sultan tries to show that re-enacting and reflecting can’t happen simultaneously—they’re quite different,” Kanojia elaborates. “He’s a comic relief in the intense narrative, but he’s also opportunistic and honest, always chasing his moment in the spotlight.”
Adding to the humor is a family prank that convinces Sultan he’s part of a Bigg Boss-style reality show, complete with hidden cameras. Oblivious to the truth, Sultan believes he’s performing for a national audience. “He genuinely thinks he’s in Bigg Boss. That’s what makes his journey funny and endearing,” shares Kanojia.
Yet, Kanojia’s portrayal goes beyond comedy. “At its core, the character is about resilience, self-belief, and finding joy in the mundane,” he says. Shining Sultan’s blend of humor and heart adds an engaging layer to the show’s dynamic storytelling.
With Rajkumar Kanojia’s nuanced performance, Udne Ki Aasha continues to captivate its audience. His depiction of Sultan is poised to become one of the show’s standout elements, promising viewers a mix of laughter, emotion, and unforgettable moments.
