MUMBAI: This New Year's Eve, get ready for a special episode of Sony Entertainment Television’s Kaun Banega Crorepati 16, hosted by the legendary Amitabh Bachchan. The iconic and celebrated singers Shankar Mahadevan and Gurdas Maan will take the hot seat, bringing viewers a soulful evening filled with music. Beyond their soulful renditions, the duo will delight the audience with light-hearted anecdotes and memories of their illustrious careers, making the evening a perfect blend of inspiration, entertainment, and joy.
One such story is that of Shankar Mahadevan remembering the song 'Jugni', from the film Veer-Zaara, which was sung so beautifully by Gurdas Maan. Gurdas shares, “Well, when Yash Ji asked me to sing a few lines for Veer-Zaara, because the film was connected to the land of Punjab, I sang for him. And then, he said, "Gurdas, do you think we can fit a line in here?" He said, "Let me play the music." He played it, and I told him, "Play it again." When he played it again, the lines from 'Jugni' just fit perfectly. The words of 'Jugni' came alive in that moment."
He continued, “Later, I got a call from Yash Ji, and he said, "Gurdas, we need one more song. Amitabh Bachchan Ji and Hema Malini Ji are performing a Lohri song. Can you sing it too?" I jokingly asked him, "Why are you playing with me? My voice doesn't suit this song." He said, 'It doesn't suit? Amitabh Ji himself has said that this song should be sung by Gurdas.' When Amitabh Ji said that, it truly touched my heart and was a huge honor for me. I was overwhelmed by the respect he showed.”
Amitabh Bachchan adds, “Some songs are made with a specific artist in mind. There are times when a particular voice may not seem to match, but there are certain songs that just suit the artist’s essence and spirit.”
Tune in for a memorable evening as Shankar Mahadevan and Gurdas Maan join Amitabh Bachchan to share stories from their incredible careers and personal experiences. Don't miss this special episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati 16 this Tuesday at 9 PM, only on Sony Entertainment Television.
