Rishi Khurana, who essays the role of Ved in Sony Entertainment Television’s Saas Bina Sasural, is disappointed with the present numbers that his show is delivering. According to him, the once cult soap has lost on ratings after deviating from the light-hearted theme that got appreciated initially.
In a frank conversation with Tellychakkar.com, Rishi says, “The creative spark which was there in the beginning has faded off, as the old lot of writers have been replaced. Everyone now wants to make quick bucks. The production house (Optimystix Entertainment) is not paying enough attention to Saas Bina Sasural. And nobody actually wants to think logically when it comes to storytelling.”
Ask him as to why the show dropped from a high 2.5 plus TVR to a mere 1.0 and he states, “I personally feel that the time slot change (moved from 10 pm to 9 pm slot) did affect the show. Secondly, we deviated from the original lighter theme for a while; the negativity brought into the story with the introduction of Kiya (Rucha Gujrathi) harmed it as the viewers were given a new taste after showing them the love story of Ved and Nitika (Shruti Bapna) for one year.”
Ask him if the show is on the verge of getting the axe due to its low numbers, and Rishi says, “I do not see any threat for the moment”. Remind him about the launch of Kaun Banega Crorepati in the near future, and he avers, “The channel has not decided whether the quiz show hosted by Mr. Bachchan will be a daily or a weekend programming. In any case, I am hoping for the best and preparing for the worst, as actors are the last ones to get informed about a project shutting down. Even when Choti Bahu went off air, we were informed just 10 days prior to the closure.”
On a personal note, Rishi wants to break away from the ‘good boy’ image and do something different. “I would want to take up something challenging, and a negative role would be very good.”
Rishi, let’s hope Saas Bina Sasural gets back to its peak again!!
