MUMBAI: Actress Roma Arora, who stars in the play Pyar Mein Twist, shares her excitement about bringing the story to life on stage. She reveals that they have successfully completed 14 shows, receiving rave reviews in cities like Mumbai, Ahmedabad, and Surat. The play is set to be performed in Hong Kong on February 17, 2025, presented by Indian Arts Circle.
“I portray a character named Kriti, who lives in the US and visits her best friend Avni, played by Gulki, in India. During her visit, she meets Gopal played by Ankit Raj and what follows between the three of them turns into a love triangle with an unexpected twist. This is how the drama gets its name, Pyaar Mein Twist. It's a fun and entertaining performance, filled with lively dance performances by the entire cast. It's the perfect show to enjoy with friends and family,” she says.
When asked how theatre differs from acting in TV and films, she explains, “Theatre is thrilling as there are no retakes. You get instant response from the audience. You can see their emotions and reactions right there – their smiles, applause, or feedback.
One fascinating aspect of the show is that I have a total of 8 outfit changes, featuring both Western and Indian attire. The challenging part is that I get only a minute or two to change clothes and hairstyle and be back on stage!"
Roma adds that her theater experience was new and challenging, as acting on stage differs greatly from films, TV, or web series. She struggled with the loud projection required in theater, as she’s used to using microphones. The process involved a month of rehearsals, and she found it difficult to adjust to the volume needed for the audience at the back of the auditorium.
The show is written and directed by Manish Mehta, with production by Nilesh Dattani, Daksha Solanki, and Mayur Solanki, and presented by Pranav Tripathi. It also features Gulki, and Ankit Raj, while the supporting cast includes Ajay Parekh, Geetika Shyam, Ashu Sharma, and Vishal.
