MUMBAI: In a wave of nostalgia that has swept across Indian television, legendary producer Ektaa Kapoor has officially confirmed the return of one of the most cherished daily soaps in the history of Indian entertainment Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi.
The landmark announcement has reignited memories and stirred excitement among fans, as the beloved series gears up for a modern revival with a fresh storyline and a brand-new ensemble cast.
Originally airing on Star Plus in the year 2000, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi quickly rose to unmatched popularity, becoming the crown jewel of prime-time television.
Holding fort at the 10:30 PM slot, the show captivated viewers for a remarkable eight years and became a ratings juggernaut that redefined the Indian soap opera landscape.

Far more than just a serial, it became a cultural touchstone a daily ritual in households across the country. It was a pioneer in the family drama genre, with its gripping plotlines, emotional arcs, and unforgettable characters that became part of everyday conversations.
At the core of the show’s success was the iconic love story of Tulsi and Mihir, originally portrayed by Smriti Irani and Amar Upadhyay.
Their on-screen chemistry became the emotional backbone of the narrative. Following Amar’s exit from the show, Ronit Roy stepped in as Mihir Virani — a role that not only solidified his place in the industry but turned him into a household name.
As the series celebrates its 25th anniversary, TellyChakkar caught up with Ronit Roy for an exclusive reflection on the show’s enduring impact. Speaking fondly, the actor shared,
“I have countless memories attached to this show. It truly marks a milestone in my career. I’m genuinely happy for Amar Upadhyay and Smriti Irani — they were the original pair and brought such authenticity to Tulsi and Mihir. I had a lot on my plate at the time, which is why I couldn’t be part of the final chapter, but I remain incredibly grateful for the journey.”
While Amar Upadhyay was the first to bring Mihir to life, it was Ronit Roy who carried the character’s legacy for the longest stretch, becoming an integral part of the show's success until it concluded.
With the revival now on the cards, excitement is reaching fever pitch. The return of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi promises not just a trip down memory lane, but also a refreshing retelling for a new generation of viewers.
