There have been reports of UTV's afternoon serial Bhabhi winding up. Whencontacted, the lead actor Rucha Gujurati who plays Suhana, negated it saying, "Even I have been hearing about it but no it's not going off air. When the serial was slated for a 20-year leap, the same rumours did the rounds."
Even Neelu Kohli avers, "Not at all. I guess it's because there a few new afternoon serials in the pipeline which are the cause for generating these rumors. Actually, now my character has been brought back after a break." For those uninitiated, originally Bhabhi is a story of Saroj, a bride who finds her Life changing drastically the minute she lifts her bridal veil.
An unfortunate accident with another vehicle carrying a marriage party renders her unconscious. Hours later, as she recuperates, she figures out that the man she is with is not her husband. Later, the soap grew in the narrative around a marriage based on pretence, as the couple continue to live in one room, posing as husband and wife.
Insiders reveal that the problem for this afternoon TRP raker started when about a year back Dolly Sohi, the original Bhabhi, post marriage got relocated to Canada. What followed later was a drastic change in the track and the new Bhabhi Rucha taking over. Some time back, Dolly did make a comeback but somehow the storyline has left audiences confused.
Presently, the soap is going for a small 6 year leap where Rucha informs, my character Suhana is dead for the original family, but she is surviving. I am a teacher in a boarding school in Nainital and now the story brings in a love triangle element to it." Bhanujeet Sudan and Vishal Singh form the other angles.
We queried UTV content head, Monisha Singh on the fate of the serial. "These are all baseless rumours. The show is doing well, and it's not going off air."
