Saeed Akhtar Mizra, who endeared to the TV watching audience with his TV serial Nukkad in 86-87, is all set to return to the small screen with Yeh Hai India Meri Jaan scheduled to be shown on Doordarshan (our sister website Indiantelevision.com has already reporter about it). The show, Yeh Hai India Meri Jaan, revolving around an enthusiastic young girl's attempt to discover the real India through her camera, is Mirza's attempt to hear and understand the voices and faces that are no longer visible on Indian small screen. The protagonist and her camera crew are fictional but the people they encounter on their journey are real. "Sometimes people welcome them in their homes and sometimes they laugh at them. It is an attempt to show the aspirations, disappointments, problems and changes of real India," Mirza has been quoted to have said. Mirza, who has been instrumental in giving classics like Mohan Joshi Hazir Ho!, Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyon Ata Hai, Salim Langde Pe Mat Ro, quit filmmaking after making Naseem in 1995, saying that he was quitting filmmaking because he felt that poetry no longer existed in our country. Then in 1997, when Mirza was asked to direct a series on India's independence with Shyam Benegal and Bhupen Hazarika, he travelled around for the series. "I travelled for six hours for that series and met ordinary people and was touched by their compassion and forgiveness towards the ruling elite like us," he observed. Welcome back Mirza saab!!!
