MUMBAI: In a surprising turn of events, two of Indian television’s biggest reality shows—Salman Khan’s Bigg Boss and Rohit Shetty’s Khatron Ke Khiladi may not return to screens this year. These shows, which command massive TRPs and enjoy a loyal fan following, are now surrounded by uncertainty following a major behind-the-scenes development.
According to an exclusive report by TellyChakkar, production house Banijay Asia (formerly Endemol India) has reportedly withdrawn from producing Khatron Ke Khiladi, with the reasons behind this sudden move still shrouded in mystery. However, the buzz doesn't end there.
Sources suggest that Banijay Asia hasn’t just backed out of Khatron Ke Khiladi, but has also stepped away from Bigg Boss. This double exit has sent shockwaves through the television industry, fuelling speculation that both shows could be shelved for the year. While there is no official confirmation from the channel or the producers yet, the development has caused quite a stir.
Banijay Asia reportedly held a 50% stake in the production of these marquee reality shows. With their departure, the fate of Bigg Boss, Khatron Ke Khiladi, and possibly other projects hangs in the balance. Insiders claim that tensions began brewing two months ago, culminating in the company’s formal withdrawal just a fortnight ago.
Adding to the uncertainty, a report by India Today reveals that several celebrities had already been finalised for Khatron Ke Khiladi's upcoming season. Names such as Orry, Isha Malviya, Munawar Faruqui, Khushboo Patani (sister of actress Disha Patani), and boxer Neeraj Goyat were reportedly locked in, with preparations underway for an international shoot scheduled for next month.
Even Rohit Shetty, the show’s longstanding and beloved host, is said to be disappointed by this unexpected turn of events, as the production was gearing up to commence soon.
For now, all plans seem to be on indefinite hold, and fans of both reality giants are left in suspense. With so much at stake and no clear resolution in sight, all eyes are on the network to see how this unprecedented situation unfolds.
One thing’s certain—the next few weeks will be crucial in determining whether two of India’s most iconic reality shows will return to television screens or be forced to take a backseat this year.
