MUMBAI: Sanaya Irani, a beloved name in the entertainment industry, continues to enchant audiences with her undeniable talent and charisma.
With a vast fanbase, she has delivered stellar performances in hit television shows such as Miley Jab Hum Tum, Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon?, and Rangrasiya.

In a recent interview, the actress opened up about the issue of pay disparity in the television industry. Reflecting on her time working on Miley Jab Hum Tum, she shared an insightful anecdote about the fair pay practices observed among her co-stars.
Sanaya revealed, “During the third year of the show, Mohit Sehgal surpassed me in terms of pay. When he discovered the amount I had requested, he encouraged me to approach the production house, as he strongly believed that all four of us – Mohit, Rati Pandey, Arjun Bijlani, and myself – deserved equal pay. He told me, ‘If I’m being paid this amount, then you should receive the same.’”
Continuing her story, she added, “The show couldn’t function without one of us, and believe it or not, in television history, this was a rare instance of fairness. Endemol was incredibly understanding when I raised the issue. Since they knew I was seeing Mohit, I was also aware of everyone's per-day rates, and I argued that they should be equal. To my delight, they agreed, which was remarkable.”
When asked about her experience as a female actor in the industry, Sanaya expressed her concerns over the gender-based pay disparity.
She remarked, “Even when a woman is leading the show, the male lead often receives a higher salary. I fail to understand the logic behind this – a female actor is on set for 12 hours, continuously shooting scenes, while her male counterpart, despite spending the same hours on set with fewer scenes, still gets paid more. I have fought for equal pay multiple times, only to face rejection.”
Sanaya’s sentiments echo the voices of numerous actresses across different entertainment mediums who have raised concerns about pay inequality.
The issue remains a significant challenge in the industry, highlighting the need for continued dialogue and change.
