Sanjay Gagnani and fiancé Poonam Preet on going headstrong about being committed to each other, READ
MUMBAI: In an age where technology and other dating apps have taken over the age-old idea of romance, actor-couple Sanjay Gagnani and fiancé Poonam Preet still believe in the magic of 'old-school romance'.
Sanjay who recently reprised his role as the antagonist Prithvi Mlhotra in Kundali Bhagya, has been in a relationship with the Naamkarann actress for around five years now and believes that one needs to put in efforts and make each other feel special as 'small gestures make a big difference' seems to be their mantra.
In a candid chat with the telly duo, they opened up about tackling insecurities and how the pandemic helped them to strengthen their bond.
With fame, name, and money the glamour industry also brings with it tough competition and insecurities.
When quizzed on managing it all, Sanjay quickly retorted, “When you have the understanding and trust each other then there isn’t enough space for either insecurities or ego clashes. Along with love you have to nurture the relationship with understanding each other, motivate and inspire each other to push their boundaries. We have stood like a rock by each other’s side in our highs and lows and that has helped us to keep the jealousy, competition, and insecurities at bay. There was a time when I was out of work and Poonam supported me, and when she was out of work, I supported her. It’s all about accepting the other person completely without letting yourself go.”.

Poonam added “We have been together for a long time and it has helped us to understand each other better, especially our strengths and flaws. I feel secured and at home around Sanjay. There’s absolutely no room for any kind of insecurities, competitions, or ego clashes; both professionally and personally. Apart from the time constraints due to our shooting schedules, being a part of the same profession has helped us a lot, to tackle the highs and lows that this industry brings with itself. Also, when he’s busy shooting and I’m relatively free, I get a lot of time to invest in myself. From dance classes, gymming to working on my craft there’s a lot of activities that keep me creatively occupied.”.
On asking Sanjay whether the pandemic has changed his perspective on their relationship, the actor shared, “As we have been living together for a few years now, so the pandemic didn’t change our perspective about our relationship in a gigantic way. But the positive side was that we got to spend enough time with each other as I was busy with my shooting schedules. When the first lockdown eased we decided to stay with my family in Navsari for a while. This helped her to understand my family better and bond well with them. When I was tested positive for COVID-19, apart from my brother and his wife, it was Poonam who pretty much nursed me back to good health.”.
“Before the pandemic, our schedules were quite erratic but the pandemic allowed us to slow down and spend quality time with each other. We watched movies, played board games, cooked together, and relaxed. I also got a lot of time to get to know Sanjay’s family better which was amazing. The unprecedented break certainly proved to be a boon for us.", the duo concluded.
