Saumya Tandon is lucky to have returned unscathed from her trip to Afghanistan. The pretty actress, currently seen in Sahara One’s reality show Saas vs Bahu, has recently returned to the country after shooting for her upcoming film Khushi, which was shot entirely in Kabul. Few days after they left the troubled nation, a blast occurred at the sight where they were shooting.
“I consider myself very lucky to have returned safely from Afghanistan. Later on, we learnt that there was a blast at the same place where we were shooting,” said Saumya.
Talking about her film, Saumya says, “The film is called Khushi, where I play the title role. This is a tale on women empowerment. Khushi braves all odds to emerge as a successful surgeon.”
A trip to Afghanistan always serves as an eye opener to the bitter reality of life. The plight of the Afghani women melts most hearts. “Women are still treated like animals there. I had the chance to interact with the locals and it was very disturbing to hear their tales. Forget Taliban but men in their own house too can turn hostile towards them,” says an aggrieved Saumya.
While this trip had its distresses, Saumya certainly carries fond memories of Afghanistan. "I felt proud as an Indian when I saw the amount of development work that our country is doing in Afghanistan. Afghanis simply love Indians and especially our films and soaps. I can honestly say that the love and affection that I found in Afghanistan is perhaps more than what I receive in India.”
