MUMBAI: Pearl V Puri, who is one of the most popular actors in TV world, has landed in legal trouble.
The actor, who is known for several TV projects, has been arrested in an old case that was filed at Waliv police station in 2019 in the Mira Bhayander Commissionerate. He is likely to be produced in court today (June 5). MBVC Commissioner Sadanand Datte informed that the actor was arrested on Friday (June 4) evening in a sexual assault case of a minor. But the action was taken after the DCP vetted the case and evidence was collected. "The victim filed FIR in 2019 u/s IPC 376 AB, r/w POCSO Act 4, 8, 12,19, 21 at Waliv and complained that accused Pearl Puri had sexually assaulted victim was then aged 5 yrs. The accused is taken into custody and will be produced today in court,” DCP Sanjay Patil added.

According to a report in Times of India, Pearl V Puri is in police remand right now. When asked about the sections slapped on the actor, advocate Falguni Brahmabhatt said to media, “Section 4 seals with penetrative sexual assault the punishment is not less than 7 years which may extend to life imprisonment, but the quantum of punishment and to prove guilty for the said offence will only be decided on the basis of evidence collected and led in the court of law during the trial. Every allegation has to be corroborated with evidence. Many times though complaints are lodged the prosecution fails to prove so in such circumstances a person can also be acquitted if not proved. And section 8 punishment 3 to 5 years Section 12 upto 3 years Section 21 six months.”
