Shubhangi Gokhale 'unhappy' with her vampish role in Hum Hai Naa

Shubhangi Gokhale
Shubhangi Gokhale last seen in SAB TV’s Lapataganj is at the moment essaying the typical TV saas in Sony TV’s Hum Hai Naa and this fact does make this talented actress unhappy. But what prompted her to take up the role in the first case? “When I was first offered the role (Ammaji) the team wasn’t too clear about how this character would turn out to be, but then they did assure me that it would be a dignified role. I had also told them that I would want this character to be light-hearted and jolly. But what was served ahead was a different story. I am doing my best to justify this role, for the threads are in the channel’s hands,” said the artist. Does it mean you do not like the fact that you play a control freak mother-in-law? “She isn’t a control freak but she is definitely concerned about her son (Bunty) and while doing so she does not realise that she is encroaching her daughter-in-law’s (Sagarika) orbit,” stated she and further went on to add, “Frankly speaking I am not at all happy with this vampish role.” We are sure it must be getting tough for you to shoot for a role like this. “My director Mohit Jha is a wonderful man and he has given me the space to decide the tone of the character. I definitely cannot change the shade, but I can say things in a subtle way in place of screaming and shouting,” explained Shubhangi. Talking about the aspect where her character which has gone through a love marriage is dead against her son and daughter-in-law consummating post marriage, she averred, “It’s completely the writer’s fault. Which mother would want to do such a thing to her son? Which son would agree to something like this? People who are deciding these storylines should actually think about it. On my part I can just try and make it look realistic.” Lastly the actor said, “I wanted this role to be another feather in my cap, but it does not seem to be going that way. I wouldn’t want the audiences to laugh and say ‘what are they showing?’Instead they should connect with it. Moreover I believe one should tell a story in a simple way for it’s the best style in the world.” We hope things get better for you soon, Shubhangi.
