The world of TRPs is a rather strange one. There are no fixed reasons or parameters based on which the numbers tend to go up or down. Bade Achhe…sizzled the screen with Ram (Ram Kapoor) and Priya’s (Sakshi Tanwar) consummation scene, yet the show did not manage to hike up its ratings. While on the other hand, Crime Patrol has been ruling the roost on the TRP chart. Now, Sony Entertainment Television’s new show Shubh Vivah is also not doing great when it comes to the number game (0.6 TVR). Virendra Shahane, fiction head of the channel, accepts that numbers are not as per expectations but goes on to state, “This was not totally shocking for let’s face it, both the time slot (7.30pm) and the genre are not in your typical Sony zone (saas bahu family drama). We are now determined to give such content; prior to this we had tried the same experiments but did not stick to them when numbers did not come.”
He continues, “Now we have decided to be players of the above genre for the long run. We will try our best with Shubh Vivah but if it does not happen we will try experiment with another show of the same genre.”
Apparently, Sony has finally understood that for a GEC to really rule the roost (become number one) you can’t only have urban and elitist kind of shows; you need to appeal to people in the country side as well.
