Mughal-E-Azam, Kagaz Ke Phool, Awara, Devdas, Bobby, Kabhi Kabhie, Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, Maine Pyar Kiya, Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge,Veer Zaara…..aaah, the list can go on and on when it comes to evergreen romantic hits on celluloid. So what’s it that mesmerizes viewers the most? Well, no points for guessing here as it is the ‘Love Stories’ that fall into the no-age bracket and can woo entertainment lovers of all ages. Wait a minute!! Here is a chance offered by Star Plus to witness gripping love stories every week with their series on telefilms titled Teri Meri Love Stories. The weekend gone by (11 and 12 August) was studded with two such love stories, one which happened in the premise of a wedding and the other wherein a couple try to get back their love which has faded away owing to their fast-paced life. We begin with Rajan Shahi’s (Director’s Kut) telefilm which kick-started the proceedings on 11 August..Age no bar, a teenager Anjali (Dimple Jhangiani) falls for a man elder to her by 10 years Karthik (Kushal Tandon) in just a week’s acquaintance and this alarms Karthik’s best friend Sunaina (Mala Salaria) who now realizes that she is in love with Karthik. Here enters the angry young man Tarun (Gautam Rode), brother of Anjali, who is of the impression that Anjali and Karthik are not made for each other. And the mind game starts, with Tarun and Sunaina joining hands to stop the marriage. And this is where Tarun starts to melt down and falls for Sunaina, and also makes her realize that she has also fallen for him. Overall, a nice love story executed well with Pataudi house providing the glitter when it comes to the ambience. When it comes to acting, Mala Salaria stands out; she seems to be a girl with great confidence and is at ease when it comes to acting, whether be the casual scenes, romantic or emotional. She is indeed a good find and will go places. Gautam Rode as the angry young man with sparks of romance seen later suits the role of Tarun to the ‘T’. It is refreshing to see Kushal Tandon on screen again, and his dance moves are superb as usual. Dimple Jhangiani impresses all once again. And the icing on the cake is provided by Dolly Ahluwalia in the role of Sunaina’s dadi; she is simply superb and her crisp narratives to the audience bring a smile. The story which is loosely based on My Best Friend’s Wedding has been presented well by Director’s Kut and must say, provided a great beginning to Star Plus’ initiative… We now move to the second telefilm aired on Sunday, 12 August 2012, produced by BBC Entertainment. Shresht (Viraf Phiroz) and Mira (Shilpa Anand) have all the riches they have craved for in life, but yet Mira is unhappy as with time, she has lost her husband’s love. Shresht is so much engrossed in making moolah and becoming popular that he has forgotten the good old days he had spent with his wife, and does not have a minute to spare for her. At this juncture, enters Keshav (Mudit Nayyar) an aspiring dancer whose presence takes Mira back to her lovey-dovey days with Shresht. However, the egoistic husband mistakes it to Mira’s new found love, but realizes his mistake soon and makes amends to set things right in his life. Overall, a cute journey of a couple who get their lost love back and decide to start things afresh. The chemistry between Shilpa and Viraf was simply superb; Shilpa who has got back to television after a hiatus looks sizzling as ever. Mudit Nayyar is a surprise package, and is impressive. The start to Teri Meri Love Stories, Star Plus’ new and refreshing idea is indeed worth watching. The biggest plus that a viewer can get is that you get to see love stories with a variety, with every passing week. And the thought that one gets to see a complete story in one and a half hour, with no wait for the next weekend to come is encouraging to the viewer. To be frank, the stories shown over the weekend were not unique love stories; we have seen similar versions before, but the execution and simplicity of storytelling shown here is surely commendable. The last 5-10 minutes of both the telefilms seemed to be hurried, probably due to the time constraint. On the whole, as a viewer we would surely look forward to Teri Meri Love Stories on Star Plus next week. Here’s a ‘Thumbs Up’ from our side!!!
