Sumedha's elimination from Sa Re Ga.. irks Bappi Lahiri

The judges said that she has the perfect voice but our Junta didn't deem Sumedha Karmahe fit to win the singing competition. The pretty girl from Chhattisgarh was eliminated from the pratham yudh last night. Despite another brilliant performance, the odds were heavily stacked against Sumedha after she was pitted against junta's beloved Poonam Yadav in the danger zone. So, did the sympathy vote for Poonam turn the tide against her? "Not really. There's no doubting that our viewers are emotionally attached with Poonam. However, to say it's the sole reason for my elimination will be unfair to Poonam. I was taken aback by the result but I'm satisfied with whatever I've achieved here" says a modest Sumedha. However, Guru Bappi Lahiri didn't mince any words when he said, "Sumedha being the best singer on the show got eliminated. Ever since the channel highlighted Poonam's sorry background, she's garnered loads of public sympathies. What went wrong for Sumedha is that unlike Poonam, she doesn't have an ailing mother and her house is lit with electricity. In a contest, it's the talent that needs to be taken into account and not one's background." Poonam said this in her defense, "I can't dispute Bappi da but I've always believed that voice of the people is the voice of God. However, I urge, rather plead to the people that please don't give me your sympathy votes. If you reckon I've performed badly, then please don't vote for me." She further adds, "I was never pleased when the show first aired my background and since then I've been helplessly facing up to these talks. In fact, I've now requested the channel to pull off all my hoardings." Poonam's guru Ismail Darbar was unavailable for comment.
