Actor Sumona Chakravarti, who is the face of one of the teams of Kunal Thakkur and Mrunal Jain’s Tennis Premier League, is confident that tennis, as a game, will be promoted through the tournament. The actor says that she is ecstatic to be part of this movement.
‘I am happy to promote a sport in the country. It’s good to promote something which is taken as a profession,’ she says.
‘It has been a great experience. I wish I could play and practice more, but I am not able to because of the timings of my show and an injury,’ she adds.
The actor has tried to learn the sport as well. ‘I attempted to play tennis as well. However, it doesn’t seem to have worked out so well,’ she laughs.
What do you think of Sumona Chakravarti?
The actor says the sports scenario in the country still favours cricket. ‘Unfortunately, today also, we are a cricket-oriented country. Cricket has now become like a religion for people. But now, changes are taking place and sports like tennis, hockey, and kabaddi are rising and gaining popularity. As actors, we can give tennis a boost and thus encourage people to play this game,’ she says.
Ask her who her favourite tennis player is, and she says, ‘Roger Federer is my favourite tennis player, and I don't miss a single match when he is playing, even if it is in the middle of the night. I love to see how he plays the game.’
She is fond of other sports too. ‘I love watching badminton. I also love swimming. I would love to do a sports-based show provided they give me ample training, as I don't want to make a fool of myself,’ she says.
