Had to unlearn a lot for 'Pataakha', says Sunil Grover
Popular television personality and actor Sunil Grover says working with National Award-winning filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj in Pataakha made him learn and unlearn a lot of things about performance.
On his experience of working with Bhardwaj, Sunil told a leading publication, "As an individual, I had my own approach to play a character. So, initially I was trying to do that. But when I started discussing things with Vishal sir, my approach changed. Sir thinks from a broader perspective, but I was thinking only of my character.
"So, working with sir made me think differently. I unlearned a lot to learn new things from sir."
In the film, Sunil essays a Rajasthani character for which he had to learn the dialect. He says it was a task.
"Vishal sir's writing is like poetry. So, as a performer, one cannot change words because that tampers the thought. He has written the script very carefully. His use of every single word has some reason. So for me, it was a challenge to match up that level of accuracy."
Asked if there is any quality of the character in the film he can relate with, Sunil said, "I have learnt how to make two people fight. Now I really can do that very well if I wish to."
The actor has been a part of showbiz for a long time, but his popularity as a comedian grew by leaps and bounds with TV show Comedy Nights With Kapil. He had a fallout with co-actor Kapil Sharma.
Is there anyone in the entertainment industry he wants to pick a fight with?
"No, no, please... I am happy in my space," Sunil promptly replied.
Pataakha will release on Friday.
My on-screen character has different shades: Piyush Sahdev
Actor Piyush Sahdev says his character Abu Fazl in the upcoming show Dastaan-E-Mohabbat: Salim Anarkali has different shades.
It is the tale of Prince Salim and courtesan Anarkali that will unfold on Colors from 1 October.
"I am grateful to be a part of a show like Dastaan-E-Mohabbat: Salim Anarkali. It is an epic love saga which has been recreated. My character Abul Fazl has different shades. He's a warrior and a poet," Piyush said in a statement.
"He's the one who wrote 'Ain-i-Akbari'. Abul Fazl was very close to Emperor Akbar. This character of Abu Fazl was never well-established in the previous versions of this story, but I am glad that it will be very well showcased in Dastaan-E-Mohabbat: Salim Anarkali," he added.
Abeer worried about his acting prospects after 'Mere Sai'
Actor Abeer Soofi, who essays the role of Sai Baba in Mere Sai, says he is worried about his "acting prospects" after the TV show concludes.
"I am absolutely happy and feel proud to be part of such a prestigious show - Mere Sai. In the past year, I have genuinely experienced lots of positive changes in my life," Abeer said in a statement.
"I remember when I agreed to do the show and play the coveted role of Sai Baba, many people told me that it would be difficult for me to break my image after playing such a distinct role.
"It wouldn't be good for me on the professional front as I would be stuck with just one character."
On the contrary, he feels playing Sai Baba has helped him gain a huge fan following.
"And on the personal front, I have become very calm," he said.
"Whenever I visit my hometown, I feel a bit different as my mother treats me as if I really am Sai Baba. She is a devotee of Sai Baba like me and probably the only person who is happier than me because of the role that I essay."
"Playing the character of a saint has been a difficult task as whenever I visit a public place, fans recognise me and try to seek blessings by touching my feet."
He is enjoying the amount of love and appreciation he is getting from viewers, but he also has a "small fear" in mind.
"I am worried about my acting prospects after Mere Sai, but I am carefree about it as I am sure about Sai Baba's blessings and he will only choose the best for me," said Abeer.
