KOLKATA: Suranjana Ray, who recently entered the television soap Jaahanara as Rubina, finds her character emotionally challenging.
She said in a statement to TellyChakkar, ‘This is something very different from all the characters that I have played over the last five years. I have never played a Muslim character before. It’s an emotionally challenging role.’
‘I am learning a lot, and I am enjoying the entire learning process,’ added the actress whose last TV project was the serial Amloki.
Suranjana, who was also seen as a vamp in the soap Rajjotok and essayed the parallel lead in web series Hello, further shared that she found the team of Jaahanara very supportive.
Commenting on her new co-actors and how they welcomed her on her first day on the sets, she stated, ‘Everyone was very supportive and caring, and they made me very comfortable.’
‘I had no pressure of fitting into someone else’s shoes. Our director–producer Babu Banik very comfortably on the first day itself told me that I can play the character exactly the way I perceive it. I don’t have to replicate someone.’
For the uninitiated, Payel De was playing the role of Rubina in Jaahanara. She is pregnant and could not continue due to health issues. Suranjana has stepped in to take the character of Rubina forward.
Jaahanara airs on Colors Bangla.
