MUMBAI :Among the most gifted and enduring television actresses in India is, without a doubt, Disha Vakani. Fans of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah have been enthralled with her outstanding portrayal of ‘Daya Ben’ for several years. She still enjoys being recognized as having one of the greatest on-screen husband-wife relationships in Indian television history with her on-screen spouse, ‘Jethalal,’ played by Dilip Joshi.
Although Disha Vakani's fans have been waiting for her comeback to TMKOC since 2017, the likelihood of her performing so is quite unlikely. She departed the show in 2017 after filming over 2437 episodes. Yet before she left the show, let's take a look at Disha Vakani's income, which was rather substantial in crores.
Credible sources of the well-known news outlet claim that Disha Vakani's daring decision caused her to leave Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah. According to reports, she was making about 1.2 lakh every episode, which was close to Jethalal's 1.5 lakh.
She decided to quit the show because the producers could not pay her what she was expecting. The show's successful run of 2437 episodes came to an end with her departure. Based on a rough calculation, she made almost Rs. 30 crores while she was on the show.
For the unversed, Disha Vakani started off her acting career with a theatre background. As per Koimoi, in an old interview, the actress walked down memory lane and recalled receiving her first paycheck, which she offered to her father. Disha said that she was paid Rs. 250 for a drama, which was her first payment.
For her, it was a momentous occasion that marked the start of her career as a professional actor. Disha expanded on the matter by saying that she gave her father, renowned Gujarati theatre actor Bhim Vakani, her first pay cheque.
Her father had shed a tear on that particular day, she continued, and she would always cherish that memory. Disha added that for artists, fulfillment at work goes beyond financial gain.
Disha can be quoted as saying, "I was paid Rs 250 for my first drama. I remember that I handed over the money to my father. He had tears in his eyes; that moment will always be closer to my heart. As an artist, work satisfaction is more important than monetary satisfaction."
Disha Vakani married businessman Mayur Padia in November 2015. The couple welcomed their baby girl in 2017 ahead of Disha's maternity break. After the break, Disha never returned to the show and it has been more than six years since then. After Disha and Mayur welcomed a newborn boy in 2022, the family of four led an ordinary life out of the spotlight.
