Television not big enough to accommodate Samir Soni?

Samir Soni, aka Purab Mehra of Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin, is all set to play his second innings in Bollywood. After doing some forgettable roles in films, the actor with unusual looks and an attitude to die for has bagged a meaty role in Sanjay Gupta's upcoming flick Alibaug. The film also stars Manasi and Rohit Roy, Diya Mirza, Sanjay Suri, and Sophie Chaudhry. "It's a story about few college friends who come together after a long time. I'm playing the role of a skeptical writer," says Samir.

So, what enticed him to take up this film? To this Samir says, "I was not ready to work for 18 hours a day. It's a very serious and a sensitive film." Are rumours of you doing a reality show true? "I did receive some offers but none of them were exciting. Reality shows peep into the personal lives of celebrities which I don't like. I'm a very private person and I can't reveal everything on national television I respect those who take up this show. It's a good way to earn fast money," quips Samir. So, are you saying a good bye to television? "Television does not hold anything interesting for me. I want to do out of the box roles. For the time being, I'm in no mood of doing these dailies." What's next besides Alibaug? "I haven't signed on any film. I believe in doing one thing at a time" laughs Samir. Quitting television for films hasn't always yielded the desired result for our telly stars. Let's hope that this Punjab da puttar is not left to regret over his decision.
