Well known singer turned host (Indian Premier League 2, India’s Got Talent) and actor (Badmaash Company) Meiyang Chang is looking forward to tonight’s episode of MTV Webbed which he will anchor.
“When Vikas Gupta of Lost Boy Productions approached me with this concept, I was interested for they always try to a bit down the different route. Our TV content is mostly more or less similar. But here they take a conventional topic and try to tweak it a bit. Webbed is a dramatised version of real life incidents of cyber crime (fraud, defaming, impersonation and ragging). It tries to inform you of the risks involved in a non-preachy way.”
“Tonight’s episode deals with the incident of cyber bullying of some students of a school in Dehradhun. It was interesting for I myself have studied in this hill station. Life is quiet there compared to Mumbai and Delhi and it is easier to fool someone online in that part of the world. Through this show we wish to educate youngsters about the dangers while surfing the World Wide Web. Besides prevention a number of others things such as parental counseling and right information is the need of the hour, “says Chang who has also won an earlier season of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa.
“I regard the internet as boon for it has made things much more convenient. But at the same time everything has a flip side for e.g. today thanks to internet I don’t need to go outside for guitar lessons, I can get online tutorial. But then I need to ensure that that the person who I am dealing with is not a fraud.”
Chang who first came on the scene as a contestant on Indian Idol 3 luckily has not been a victim of hacking. “I am lucky as most people can’t get my name’s spelling right. But yes I have several false Facebook pages and Twitter handles dedicated to me. A few of them are managed by my fans and they say so. The fear here is that certain unscrupulous elements may try to fool people by being me and try to cheat them selling false autographs and other stuff. It might have happened also but I don’t know about it. So the bottom line again is to be careful.”
Well said, Chang!!!
