MUMBAI: Highlighting Lord Hanuman’s development from a spirited toddler to a supernatural defender, Sony SAB’s Veer Hanuman is a journey through the life of one of India’s most adored gods. With extravagant sets, lavish costumes, and larger-than-life characters, the performance, which premieres on March 11 and runs Monday through Saturday at 7.30 PM, will bring Lord Hanuman's lesser-known stories to life on a massive scale. The makers have now unveiled the first look of its key characters—Bali and Sugreev (Mahir Pandhi), Anjani (Sayli Salunkhe), Kesari (Arav Chowdharry), and young Lord Hanuman (Aan Tiwari). Every aspect, from their intricately designed attire and ornate jewellery to the precise makeup, has been carefully curated to highlight their personalities.
Every character in Veer Hanuman has a unique appearance that conveys the spirit of their part; Mahir Pandhi's portrayals of Sugreev and Bali are meant to stand in stark contrast to one another. Bali's brown Viking-inspired hair gives her a powerful, warrior-like appearance. He wears jewelery with an Airavat motif to accentuate his commanding appearance, and his deep crimson and purple clothing represents his ambition. Conversely, Sugreev exudes a softer vibe. He wears sun-motif jewelery and has shoulder-length hair. Inspired by the Ajanta and Ellora caves, his yellow-green outfit represents his intelligence and devotion.
Sayli Salunkhe is the epitome of grace and majesty in her role as Anjani. She is dressed in an apsara-inspired ensemble created by Kumartuli Murti artists. The Apsara look's headpiece is composed of Shola, or wood shreds. Her heavenly appearance is enhanced by the Alpona art-inspired makeup and styling. The royal king Kesari, played by Arav Chowdharry, is dressed in a drape made of mustard-red silk. His crown, which represents his power and moral character as a warrior and a father, is fashioned to imitate the ancient mountains and landscapes of India.
Lastly, the purity and limitless vitality of the heavenly vanar are brought to life by Aan Tiwari in the role of youthful Lord Hanuman. He is pictured carrying a powerful gada (club) in his trademark fashion, which perfectly reflects his fun nature. Because every aspect of the appearances has been purposefully designed, these characters feel both authentic and enormous.
Mahir Pandhi, who played Bali, said, "Playing both Bali and Sugreev is one of the biggest opportunities I have come across, and their contrasting looks helped me embody their individual characteristics so much better. The moment I put on Bali’s outfit, with the deep reds and heavy warrior jewellery, I could feel his power and intensity. Sugreev, on the other hand, has a grounded energy; his costume adds warmth to his personality. It’s amazing how much a look can shape a character, and I think audiences will immediately resonate with their stark personalities when they see them on screen."
"Anjani's look is truly unique; the costumes and jewellery are inspired by the elegance of ancient temples and Ajanta Ellora art, capturing both her divine presence and her strength as a mother," said Sayli Salunkhe, who plays the character of Anjani. I immediately connected with her when I wore the outfit for the first time. It was like putting oneself in the shoes of someone who is equally strong and full of love. She is strong, but I hope that's shown on screen since love is what gives her strength.
"Kesari is a noble king, but his appearance indicates his duty as a father and protector," said Arav Chowdharry, who was portraying Kesari. The crown and the mustard-red silk reflect his kingdom's scenery. I could sense the weight of obligation that comes with playing him the first time I put it on. He is a leader who upholds moral principles. I adore how my ensemble combines simplicity and strength. I am reminded of Kesari every time I wear it—a man with a strong faith and a heart full of love for his son.
Stay tuned to witness the beginning of an epic journey as ‘Veer Hanuman’ launches on 11th March and will air every Monday to Saturday at 7.30 PM on Sony SAB.
