MUMBAI: Just like any other-themed competitive shows which air on the television, there are shows which showcase an individual's vocal skills and potentials which can help them achieve the designation of an aspiring singer who hopes to stand under the limelight. Yes, we are talking about the reality singing competitive shows that are aired on the Hindi TV channels.

These shows leave no stone unturned to test the limits, skills and dedication of their participants and motivate people from all sects, backgrounds and age-groups to showcase their talents before the camera, focussing on WHY an individual deserves to be at the topmost position amongst their fellow participants.

Without any further ado, let's take a note of the popular talent-hunting singing shows (which air on the Indian Television):

1. Indian Idol

This show is the Indian version of the British music competition Pop Idol's format, that has aired on Sony Entertainment Television since 2004. 

Eminent singers from Shreya Ghoshal, Anu Malik, Asha Bhosle and others have judged this prestigious show so far. Currently, Vishal Dadlani, Neha Kakkar and Himesh Reshammiya are the active judges of the show with Aditya Narayan as it's host.

It has showcased 12 seasons so far. 

2. Sa Re Ga Ma Pa

This Indian musical game show started airing on Zee TV in 1995 and is the oldest running Hindi singing reality show in India.

The first season of this show was hosted by Sonu Nigam. Eventually, Bollywood singer Shaan took over as the show's host. After Shaan quit hosting the show, the show was hosted by many others like Purab Kohli, Manish Paul, Karan Singh Rathore, Archana Jani and many others. Currently, Aditya Narayan's it's active host.

Till 2005, the show used to follow a format wherein experts in the field of music would judge the contestants and score them. The format changed with the advent of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge 2005 which introduced the judges as mentors of different teams and scoring was primarily dependent on public voting. 

Despite of having ample number of seasons, this show has multiple spin-offs like Sa Re Ga Ma Pa L'il Champs, Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge USA (2008), Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Singing Superstar, etc.

3. Star Voice Of India

This show is an Indian television singing competition that premiered on 18 May 2007 and ended on 24 November 2007 on Star Plus. The show was directed by Gajendra Singh - the creator of the Sa Re Ga Ma Pa series and produced by Urban Brew Studios. 

It was judged by legendary Bollywood singers like Aadesh Shrivastava, Abhijeet Bhattacharya, Alka Yagnik, Lalit Pandit and Jatin Pandit. Shaan was the active host of this show.  

This show aired 2 seasons so far and 1 spin-off show for kids, named Star Voice Of India Chote Ustad.

4. Dil Hai Hindustani

This Indian Hindi reality singing talent show was scheduled to premiere sometime in December 2016 and has been broadcasted on Star Plus. The first season aired from 7 January - 1 April 2017.

The uniqueness about this show is that it allows competitors, not from only India, but from all over the world to compete.

The first season of the show was judged by Karan Johar, Badshah, Shekhar Ravjiani and Shalmali Kholgade, while the second season was judged by Sunidhi Chauhan and Pritam. 

This show has featured two seasons as of now.

5. India's Raw Star

Indian singing competition series created by Gajendra Singh of Saibaba Telefilms which aired on Star Plus from 24 August 2014. 

It was hosted by model-actress and Bigg Boss 7 winner Gauahar Khan and mentored by singer-rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh.

This was one of it's kind shows for giving chances to unknown and underrated artistes from the corners of this country, who could write and sing their own songs instead of covering known songs.

6. Rising Star

This Indian version of the international franchise series Rising Star (a reality television singing competition) premiered on 4 February 2017 on Colors TV. This is the first reality television show in India, which involves live audience voting and the votes can be sent through Colors TV app (for Season 1) and the Voot app (Season 2).

Popular playback singer and music director Shankar Mahadevan, actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh and playback singer Monali Thakur formed the trio of experts. However, Monali was later replaced by Neeti Mohan in the show's third season. This show also marked Dosanjh's television debut.

The first season of the show was hosted by singer-actor Meiyang Chang and dancer-choreographer Raghav Juyal. However, television actor Ravi Dubey took over as host for the second season and was eventually replaced by actor-singer Aditya Narayan from hosting the third season.

This show has showcased 3 seasons so far, with it's fourth installment currently being underway. 

7. The Voice India

This Indian singing reality talent show is based on the original Dutch version of the program created by John de Mol. The show first aired on 6 June 2015 on &TV and has aired for three seasons

The series employs a panel of four coaches who critique the artistes' performances. Each coach guides their team of selected artists through the remainder of the season. They also compete to ensure that their act wins the competition, thus making them the winning coach. Eminent Bollywood singers like Shaan, Adnan Sami, A. R. Rahman, Arman Mallik, Benny Dayal and many others judged the show. Known telly fames Karan Tacker, Gunjan Utreja, Sugandha Mishra and Divyanka Tripathi has hosted the show so far.   

The first season of the series received positive reviews. Owing to the show's huge success, the channel announced a junior version of it which was aired on 23 July 2016.
