Ulka’s fame delays Kratika’s entry

When Zee TV approached Contiloe films to produce the historical show Jhansi Ki Rani, industry insiders speculated it to be a disaster as shows of this genre have never spelt success in the Indian television industry. But the popularity of Jhansi Ki Rani debunked this theory and its actors became popular in a fortnight. In particular, the one who walked away with all adulation is child wonder Ulka Gupta who is seen essaying the title role of Manu bai aka Jhansi Ki Rani.

Ulka who plays the younger Rani Laksmi bai was initially supposed to be on the show for only 30 episodes and then actor Kratika Sengar, who was shortlisted to play the older Rani, was to take over. But the success of the show and Gupta’s popularity have delayed Kratika’s entry in this Zee show. Informs a source, “Initially Kratika Sengar was supposed to enter the show after 30 episodes but later it was pushed ahead owing to Ulka’s popularity and the overwhelming response to her act and the script of the show. Later the channel decided to extend Ulka’s role till 100 episodes but now we have mutually decided to bring in Kratika after 70 episodes. We will get Manu bai married sometime by mid of December and Kratika will finally make her way into the show. But if the channel changes its mind again and asks us to stick to Ulka till the completion of 100 episodes then Kratika’s entry will be further delayed till February.” When contacted, Kratika refused to comment.
