MUMBAI: While work is important, actor Worship Khanna observes a strict Chinese wall between his job and his personal life. The actor, who has been a part of shows like Kumkum Bhagya, Meri Doli Mere Angana, Ishq Subhan Allah and web series like Hello Jee, Cold Lassi and Chicken Masala and currently seen in the show Pati Brahmachari, adds that he makes sure to keep his personal time private and devoid of work pressures.
“I believe a lot in my personal life. Work is work. I see it as something that needs to be done sincerely, but I don’t let it take over everything. I have one rule: if I do a 12-hour shift on set, then after those 12 hours, I leave everything about the set behind. I don’t talk about it, I don’t even think about it. When I come home, I focus on my own world. I spend time with my pets and live in my own way. I strongly believe in having a personal life, enjoying small things, and staying true to myself, I never mix my personal life and professional life. Yes, this career is demanding, and it comes with its pressures, but I only do what is really needed. I don’t force myself to stay active on social media or attend parties just for the sake of my career. I work as much as I feel is right as much as I owe to my fans and audience but not beyond that. For me, managing my personal life is just as important as my work,” he says.
The actor says that he is very specific about choosing the right projects as well. “For me, the main criteria for choosing any project is that I should get to play a versatile and performance-oriented role, something that brings a turning point in the story or helps take the story forward in an important way. I always try to choose characters that play a key part in the plot or add some twist to the story,” he says.
He adds, “Apart from that, I feel I am still not at that stage in my career where I can say, “I won’t do this role” or “I won’t do that role.” So, whatever work comes my way, I do it with sincerity. Every role teaches me something new. After doing it, I reflect on whether it was right for me or not. But as an artist, my aim is always to pick roles that have significance in the story. Still, if I am free and any work comes to me, I definitely say yes to it.”
Meanwhile, the actor makes sure to not let the cut throat competition get to him. “This is such a competitive industry that when one person gets a role, it naturally means someone else has lost that chance. Many people are always fighting for the same role. From the outside, it may look easy, people think that once you get your first role, you’ll become a star, and you just have to fight for that one chance. But it’s not like that at all. It’s also about luck and where you fit in a role. If you match the image that the writer, producer, or channel had in mind, especially if they are choosing based on looks, then they pick you. Even if your acting is not perfect, they feel they can work on that, but looks matters a lot because they imagined the character a certain way. So, in the end, I feel luck plays a very big role.”
