MUMBAI: Glenn Maxwell's IPL 2025 campaign continues to face setbacks, with the PBKS all-rounder fined 25% of his match fee and handed a demerit point for violating the IPL Code of Conduct during the team’s recent clash against CSK at the New PCA Stadium in New Chandigarh. The IPL confirmed that Maxwell admitted to a Level 1 offence under Article 2.2, which pertains to the misuse of cricket equipment, clothing, or ground fittings during a match. As per protocol, the Match Referee’s decision in Level 1 breaches is final and binding.

Maxwell had a forgettable outing with the bat, managing only one run, though he did provide a breakthrough by dismissing CSK opener Rachin Ravindra and breaking a threatening opening stand. Despite being bought for ₹4.2 crore at the auction, Maxwell has yet to find form with the bat this season. In four matches, he has scored just 31 runs at a strike rate of 129.17, although he has taken three valuable wickets with his off-spin.
His underwhelming performances have drawn criticism, notably from former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar, who likened Maxwell's rare batting brilliance to the appearance of Halley's Comet, suggesting it only comes around once in a long while.
