MUMBAI: Gujarat Titans have been dealt a significant blow ahead of their clash with Lucknow Super Giants on April 12, as star all-rounder Glenn Phillips has been ruled out for the rest of IPL 2025 due to a groin injury sustained during the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 6.

Although Phillips hadn’t featured in a single match this season, his absence still leaves a notable void, especially considering his reputation as one of the top fielders in world cricket. The franchise had secured his services at the IPL 2025 auction for his base price of ₹2 crore. GT shared an official message wishing him a swift recovery.

The search for a replacement will be tricky, with many overseas players currently tied up in the Pakistan Super League. Possible options could include the likes of Jonny Bairstow or Dewald Brevis, but nothing has been confirmed.

Earlier in the tournament, Kagiso Rabada also exited the GT squad due to personal reasons. The team now has five overseas players available, though only three have featured in the last few matches. Gerald Coetzee and Karim Janat are yet to make their debut for the franchise.

Despite these setbacks, Gujarat Titans have made an impressive start to their campaign. They sit atop the points table with four wins from five matches, edging out the undefeated Delhi Capitals on net run rate.

In Phillips' absence, Sherfane Rutherford has been the preferred overseas batter in the middle order and has delivered 136 runs from five innings at a blistering strike rate of 178.94.

GT’s current squad includes Shubman Gill (captain), Jos Buttler (wicketkeeper), Sai Sudharsan, Sherfane Rutherford, Shahrukh Khan, Rahul Tewatia, Rashid Khan, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, and several domestic and overseas talents like Ishant Sharma, Washington Sundar, Gerald Coetzee, and Karim Janat.
