MUMBAI: Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s Phil Salt created a light-hearted moment during a recent interview with the franchise, when he jokingly denied being friends with Virat Kohli — only to backtrack shortly after. Salt, who joined RCB this season for ₹11.5 crore, was questioned by the team’s popular personality Mr. Nags about his rapport with Kohli.

When asked if they were friends, Salt cheekily responded:
“Colleagues.”
However, upon being pressed again, the English batter switched his stance and humorously clarified:
“Everybody that I have played cricket with is a friend of mine. I just did not want to give you any extra ammunition in this interview.”
Meanwhile, Kohli reflected on RCB’s recent dominant win over Delhi Capitals, sharing insights into how he adapts his approach based on match scenarios.
“It was a top win, especially looking at the surface. We saw a few games here and this wicket played out differently compared to those. Whenever there's a chase on, I keep checking with the dugout, whether we're on course,” he said.
Kohli elaborated on the factors he assesses during a run-chase:
“(What) the total (is) on the board. What the conditions are like. Who are the bowlers that are due to bowl. Who are the bowlers that are going to be hard to get away.”
Highlighting the value of building partnerships, Kohli added:
“I try and make sure my singles and doubles don't stop so that the game doesn't get stagnant. People are forgetting the importance of partnerships... to try and dominate the bowlers through partnerships and professionalism.”
Kohli also praised Krunal Pandya’s return to form:
“Krunal was outstanding, he can make an impact and it was just about time. We've communicated beautifully, Krunal kept telling me to stay while he took his chances.”
