In a recent fan behaviour study conducted by Kadence International in collaboration with Crisp Insights, Virat Kohli has officially dethroned long-standing fan favourite MS Dhoni of Chennai Super Kings in the popularity rankings.
According to the Edart IPL Brand Impact report, a striking 95% of the 20,000 respondents expressed a strong preference for individual players over teams, despite 77% admitting they had no particular team allegiance.
Leading this wave of player-driven fandom, Kohli emerged as the top choice, firmly cementing his status as the most admired figure in the Indian Premier League.
According to the Edart IPL Brand Impact survey, although 77% of the 20,000 participants said they didn't support any specific team, a remarkable 95% expressed loyalty to individual players—with Kohli emerging as the top choice among fans.
Kohli is 36 years old and yet he has a fan-following that’s only increasing with time. During this year’s IPL opening ceremony, superstar Shah Rukh Khan called Kohli the ‘GOAT (Greatest Of All Time) of IPL’. The surprising part is the type of attraction fans have towards RCB due to Virat Kohli’s charisma. In fact, as per a Redifussion report, Kohli’s influence is so huge that 51% of RCB fans credited their team allegiance due to his presence.
But what makes Virat Kohli so promising and why such a huge fan-following? Well, he has been performing consistently for his franchise. Even in IPL season 18, Kohli has been on fire for the Bengaluru team, scoring 97 runs in three games so far.
Virat Kohli's standout performance this season came in the tournament opener against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens, where he remained unbeaten on 59 from just 36 deliveries. He followed that up with a solid 31-run contribution in Royal Challengers Bengaluru's victory over Chennai Super Kings, and shared a heartfelt hug with MS Dhoni after the match—a moment that has quickly become one of IPL 2025's most memorable highlights.
However, both Kohli and the RCB squad faltered in their clash against Gujarat Titans on April 2, with the star batter managing only 7 runs. Despite the setback, RCB currently sit third in the points table. Supporters are now eagerly hoping that 'King' Kohli—who holds the distinction of being the most-followed player in the league—can lead the charge for his long-awaited first IPL title.
