MUMBAI: Sifat Sehgal and Karan Raj, the winners of the reality show Engaged on Jio Hotstar, were in a relationship before the show but broke up before it began. Karan was the first to be offered the show, and later, Sifat entered as a wild card contestant. Their journey on Engaged took an interesting turn as they spent time together, rediscovered their bond, and got back together during the course of the show. By the time the finale arrived, they were not only a couple again but also emerged as the winners of the competition.
Now, after their win, they are looking to take the next step by finding a home together in Mumbai. However, they are facing a major challenge—many landlords are unwilling to rent to them because they are unmarried. Mumbai’s rental market is known to be difficult for couples in live-in relationships, with housing societies and landlords often preferring married tenants due to societal norms.
Despite their popularity, Karan and Sifat are going through the same struggle that many young couples in India face. Their situation brings attention to the issue of housing discrimination against unmarried couples, highlighting the need for more open-minded policies and acceptance in urban housing. As they continue their search, they remain hopeful that they will soon find a place to call home.
