MUMBAI: Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) star batter Virat Kohli was visibly frustrated during their IPL 2025 clash against Mumbai Indians (MI) after a missed opportunity to dismiss Suryakumar Yadav sparked a moment of intense emotion.

The incident occurred in the 12th over of MI’s innings when Yash Dayal delivered a slower ball that took the edge of Suryakumar’s bat and ballooned into the air. However, confusion between wicketkeeper Jitesh Sharma and Dayal led to a misjudged attempt at the catch, and the chance went begging. Kohli, standing in the field, reacted by throwing his cap on the ground in anger, a rare sight given his usually composed demeanour in recent seasons.

Suryakumar, who was on 27 at the time, couldn’t capitalise for long, as Dayal redeemed himself later in the same over. He once again bowled a well-disguised slower ball, and this time Phil Salt took a clean catch at mid-off to dismiss the MI batter for 28.
The moment quickly went viral, with fans drawing comparisons to a similar outburst by Rajasthan Royals coach Rahul Dravid, who had famously hurled his cap in frustration after a heartbreaking defeat to MI in IPL 2014, which saw RR crash out of the playoffs race.
Despite the missed opportunity, RCB held their nerve and clinched a 12-run victory at the Wankhede Stadium, moving up to third place on the points table. Kohli played a key role in the win, anchoring the innings with a composed 67 off 42 balls, including eight boundaries and two sixes.
RCB now have three wins from four matches, while MI continue to struggle, managing just one victory from their first five games of the season.
