MUMBAI: There was plenty of movement at the top of both the Orange and Purple Cap standings following Sunday’s double-header in IPL 2025.
Orange Cap
The battle for the Orange Cap saw dramatic shifts throughout the day. In the afternoon match, Mumbai Indians’ (MI) star Suryakumar Yadav briefly took over the top spot from Gujarat Titans' (GT) B Sai Sudharsan. Suryakumar smashed a rapid 54 off just 28 deliveries against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), pushing his total to 427 runs — overtaking Sai Sudharsan’s 417.
However, Suryakumar’s reign at the top was short-lived. In the evening clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Delhi Capitals (DC), Virat Kohli played a steady knock of 51 off 47 balls. His innings took his season tally to 443 runs, propelling him to the top of the Orange Cap leaderboard.
The battle remains tight, as Sai Sudharsan will get another opportunity to reclaim the top spot when GT face Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Jaipur on Monday.
Following Kohli and Suryakumar in the top run-scorers list are LSG’s Nicholas Pooran, who has amassed 404 runs, and Mitchell Marsh, who has scored 378 runs so far.

Purple Cap
The Purple Cap standings also witnessed a change at the summit. RCB’s Josh Hazlewood now leads the pack, thanks to his figures of 2 for 36 against DC, which took his wicket tally to 18 from 10 matches.
GT’s Prasidh Krishna sits second with 16 wickets from just eight appearances, keeping the pressure on Hazlewood. Noor Ahmad of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is third with 14 scalps to his name. Meanwhile, MI’s Trent Boult, RCB’s Krunal Pandya, and SRH’s Harshal Patel are tied with 13 wickets each, rounding out a tightly contested race.
With plenty of matches still to be played, both the Orange and Purple Cap battles promise more twists and turns as the season heads into its crucial phase.
