Are you having a nostalgic time reading our ‘YearEnder’ features of the year gone by? Certainly, as readers, you would have had your likes and dislikes in terms of the TV programs offered to you on a platter in the year 2016. 

So how do you think the New Year will progress? What are the shows you are looking forward to watching? Are you looking for ‘uniqueness’ in terms of concepts? Are you interested in the ‘thriller’ subjects or the ‘saas bahu’ sagas? Or do action oriented programs make you happy?

Well, do you need a preview to what will come your way at least in the first quarter of 2017?

Let’s start with Star Plus..

Shoonya Square Productions and SOL Media’s Nastik will be a tale about an atheist girl and her trysts with a God woman. Actors Kanwar Dhillon, Tina Philip and Sharanpreet Kaur will play the lead roles. The show is already on floor and is slated for a January end or early February launch. 

Paperback Films, the newly launched production house helmed by director Ravindra Gautam and Pradeep Kumar will come up with the inspirational story of a young girl who would go on to be a champion in athletics. The show is titled Meri Durga. Child arists Ananya Agarwal will play the titular role, while actor Vicky Ahuja, Rakhi Vijan, Rajesh Shringarpure will play pivotal roles. The daily is slated for a January launch. 

Shashi Sumeet Productions’ Diya Aur Baati Hum with Anas Rashid and Deepika Singh has been a trendsetter. Now, viewers will be entertained by the sequel of this popular show. However, the leads Anas and Deepika will not be seen in DABH 2. Avinesh Rekhi and Rhea Sharma will spearhead the story as the lead while few prominent characters like Bhabho, Bhaisa and Meenakshi have been retained. The same is expected to launch in February. 

The next show in pipeline is again a Shashi Sumeet Productions project. An Indian adaptation of the American popular sitcom,The Last Man Standing, the dramawill be helmed by Parmeet Sethi in the Director’s role. Vinay Pathak, Rakesh Bedi, Ekta Pabari, Zaan Khan, Ashnoor Kaur, Smita Bansal and Barkha Singh will form the prime cast. The show is expected to launch in March this year. 

Siddharth Malhotra’ newly formed company Alchemy Films will come up with a big-budget drama based on a popular novel. Popular actors Karan Wahi, Preetika Rao, Sanjeeda Sheikh, Keith Sequira and Soni Razdan will be the prime cast. The show will soon go on floor. 

It’s been time since Bhairavi Raichura and Nandita Mehra’s 24 Frames shot for a pilot for Star, on a tale of modern age romance between three youngsters. Based on a Turkish show, it will have Kunal Karan Kapoor, Shrenu Parikh and Rajveer Singh as leads. 

Vikram Bhatt will don the Director’s cap for Sidharth Sengupta’s show which will again be based on a Turkish daily. Featuring Samir Soni and Smriti Kalra as leads, this romantic tale will be about a younger girl falling in love with a much older man and getting married to him.

Alind Srivastava and Nissar Parvez’ Peninsula Pictures will come up with a fantasy tale which will be completely fictional. Titled The King’s Daughters, the show will have Shakti Anand, Gracy Goswami, Vishal Karwal, Hiba Nawab, Ritu Barmecha and others in prime roles. 

The clash between the Dravidians and Aryans will be the main plot of Rose Audio Visuals’ mega-scale drama titled Aarambh. Starring Rajniesh Duggal and South girl Karthika Nair, the show is touted to be one of the biggest on TV.

Zama Habib’s Qissago Telefilms will come up with a very unique concept based on the backdrop of Banaras. Kunal Khosla and Bhumika Gurung will play the leads. 

Also in pipeline are Sooraj Barjatya’s tale of Meerabai and a finite series of a big magnitude coming from the youngest producers in tinsel town, Karan Raj Kohli and Viraj Kapur, and a show by Optimystix.

Moving to the non-fiction segment, Dil Hai Hindustani, the singing reality show will cater to the talent across the globe. Judges Karan Johar, Badshah, Shalmali Kholgade, Shekhar Ravjiani will the ones in command. 

Moving over to Sony TV, the shows to look forward to in 2017 looks like this.

The much-anticipated historical Peshwa Bajirao, from the stables of Sphereorigins will be the next big launch on TV. The show with its vast and experienced cast which includes Manish Wadhwa, Anuja Sathe, Raza Murad and many others is sure to be a visual spectacle. 

Mumtaz Saba Productions will come up with a very different plot titled Moh Moh Ke Dhaage very soon on Sony TV. The show has Eijaz Khan, Niyati Fatnani, Jia Mustafa and Benaf Dadachanji in prime roles. 

Other fiction shows in the pipeline on Sony TV are Swastik Pictures’ cute love story and Beyond Dreams’ unique concept about a girl suffering from hyper activity syndrome. Tentatively titled Behane, the makers and channel have been in talks with Sanaya Irani for the lead role in the Beyond show.

Talking about Zee TV, Alchemy Films’ show Woh Apna Sa, inspired from the Bollywood flick, We Are Family has been gaining a lot of eyeballs. The cast will have Ssudeep Sahir, Disha Parmar and Ridhi Dogra in lead roles. The same will go on air in January. 

Offshore Productions’ family drama with a difference, titled Sethji is all set for a launch on Zee TV soon. The show will see the comeback of talented actress Gurdeep Kohli. Along with Prachi Thakkar, Divya Bhatnagar and a brigade of youngsters, this serial has everything in it to make a noise. 

Chandan Singh who has been creatively involved in many Salman Khan starrers, will come up with a theme based on Naxals titled Naxal – Ek Prem Katha. Based on the backdrop of Bihar, the show is slated to be one of the biggies. Satya star Puneet Singh Ratn is slated to play the lead in the show. 

Acclaimed Director Ravi Raj’s maiden venture as Producer titled Agniphera will have Ankit Gera, Yukti Kapoor playing leads. 

New Producers on the block, Piyush Gupta and Jatin Sethi’s Pics Productions will come up with the interesting show titled Ayodhya which will be a family drama with a difference. Yash Gera and Jyoti Sharma are slated to play lead roles in the show. 

Rajshri Ojha and Ram Kamal Mukherjee’s romcom, Bin Kuch Kahe with Shamata Aanchan and Sameera Arora as leads will now launch on Zee TV instead of & TV, as per the new development. 

Moving to the non-fiction segment, SaReGaMaPa L’il Champs 9 will enthral all the music lovers this season with its riveting display of talent. With judges Jaaved Ali, Himmesh Reshammiya and Neha Kakkar at the helm, there is a lot to look forward to.

Colors also has its line-up planned for the next few months. 

Dil Se Dil Tak, produced by Shashi Sumeet Productions is touted to be the next big project on TV. Loosely adapted from the movie Chori Chori Chupke Chupke, the show will feature Siddharth Shukla, Rashami Desai and Jasmin Bhasin in lead roles. The show will launch very soon. 

Ekta Kapoor is having a race against time when it comes to the launch of her ambitious show, Chandrakantha. With direct competition on the concept coming from Life OK and Nikhil Sinha, only time will tell whose concept will turn into reality and who will fail to reach the mark. 

The weekend thrill on Colors, created by the success of Naagin and Kavach will be carried forward by Peninsula Pictures’ upcoming detective series Devaanand. The show in all likelihood will replace Naagin 2. 

In the reality front, The Rising Star, the very unique singing concept by Optimystix will surely take the music loving audience by storm. As of now, Shankar Mahadevan and Diljit Dosanjh have been brought on board as judges.

& TV also has few shows in the pipeline for launch. 

Nivedita Basu’s The House of Originals will come up with a story that will dwell on a marriage that will happen under the most difficult circumstances. Titled Ek Vivaah Aisa Bhi, the show has Sonali Nikam and Abhishek Malik as leads. 

Peninsula Pictures has been secretively planning and working on a mythological on Lord Krishna. Though the show is in its nascent stage, the drama is likely to be the talk of the town, considering the fact that many production houses wanted to work on the similar concept of Krishna. 

Moving to Life OK, the channel is all set for a major revamp post which it will mostly have male oriented concepts on air. 

Saurabh Tewari’s Parin Multimedia will kick-start the progression with the new show, Ghulaam. The daily comes with a lot of expectations, and has Param Singh, Vikas Manaktala, Niti Taylor in lead roles. 

DJ’s – A Creative Unit’s romcom, Har Mard Ka Dard which will revolve around a common guy who would get the special power of knowing every woman’s desire will have Faisal Rashid and Jinal Belani in lead roles. The show will launch soon. 

As said earlier, Life OK is working on Chandrakantha with Triangle Films helming it. With Ekta Kapoor too working on the concept for Colors, this will turn out to be an interesting play-out. 

Contiloe’s historical, Maharaja Ranjit Singh is touted to be the next biggie on the channel. Seasoned actors Shaleen Bhanot, Sneha Wagh and Anuradha Patel have been roped in for major roles. 

White Horse International’s revenge thriller will be one of a kind considering that it has more male faces when compared to the females. The revenge thriller will have actors Avinash Sachdev, Manav Gohil playing the lead roles. 

Jay Productions’ unique concept about a story set in the backdrop of a jungle will have popular faces Megha Gupta and Harshita Ojha in lead roles. Popular Marathi actor Gashmeer Mahajani will play the male protagonist. 

Well, the year seems to be interestingly poised as varied genres of serials will be greeting the TV viewing audiences.
