Mithun Chakraborty was born on 16 July 1952 in Barisal, Bangladesh. He has completed his schooling at the Oriental Seminary. He graduated with chemistry from Scottish Church College of the University of Calcutta and is an alumnus of the Film and Television Institute of India. He had undergone expert training in Martial Arts to the grade of black belt, which made him excel in fight sequences. In 1967, he won the West Bengal State Wrestling Championship in the Junior Category.
Mithun was the co-owner of Royal Bengal Tigers, a cricket team of the now abandoned Indian Cricket League. He is also the co-owner of Bengal Football Academy, aimed to promote football talents of the country. He started his film acting in the year 1976. After being part of the films, he was widely recognized as an action hero and dancer. As a great actor, he has achieved not only commercial success but also tremendous critical acclaim. He was also featured in several regional movies. He has also started the concept of Dance India Dance, an Indian dance competition show that airs on Zee TV. He has also hosted Bigg Boss in Bengali version named Bigg Boss Bangla.
