MUMBAI: Ajay Bahl’s Blurr which stars Taapsee Pannu in the lead role has started streaming on Zee5. The film is a remake of the Spanish film Julia’s Eyes and also stars Gulshan Devaiah and Abhilash Thapliyal in pivotal roles.

TellyChakkar recently interacted with Ajay and spoke to him about the response the film has been getting and a lot more…

What responses are you getting for the film?

Mostly it has been good. I am happy with it. It is slightly new, something that is not the template that we are used to seeing. But, I am happy with the response.

How did the project start and how did you decide to remake Julia’s Eyes?

It started with Vishal Rana (producer) buying the rights. Meanwhile, I and Taapsee were talking after Section 375 and we had met at the screening of Thappad as well. We had said to each other that let’s do a film together. Vishal got the rights and he approached Taapsee for the film, and she said yes. Later, Vishal came to me. As I and Taapsee wanted to work together we said let’s do this. We wanted a studio and as Taapsee’s name was attached it wasn’t difficult, and that’s how Zee Studios came on board. And here we are today.

When you were directing Blurr you had planned it as an OTT or a theatrical release?

We started shooting bang in the middle of the pandemic, everything was shut. We did not know if theatres would even see the light of day. Nobody knew anything. The country was going through such a terrible time. I am just one of the lucky guys who got to work during the pandemic. So, then we had no clue what was going to be the scenario. The two films that worked are Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and Drishyam 2; they are not spectacular, but they are franchises. But, I hope the audience comes back (to theatres), however, it’s still very sketchy, and nobody knows.
