MUMBAI: Randeep Hooda starrer Inspector Avinash has started streaming on Jio Cinema. The series stars Abhimanyu Singh in a negative role and he plays the role of a transgender in it.
TellyChakkar recently interacted with Abhimanyu and spoke to him about the response he is getting for his performance in the series, how difficult it was to play a transgender and more...
What response are you getting for your performance in Inspector Avinash?
I am getting a crazy response. It is quite shocking for people to see me in a role like this. So, every day I am reading all the comments and reviews about my performance in Inspector Avinash.

You play the role of a transgender, so was it difficult to play the character?
It was very difficult because I have never done something like this before. I have heard about Ardhanarishvara, but how would I do that was the question in my mind. I had to work on my body language, my voice and every single gesture that I was going to do. You can’t pre-plan so many things all together at once and perform. So, you have to get into the skin of the character and then act. Neeraj sir told me to interact with real Kinnars when they were around. All are real Kinnars in my gang. So, I sat with them for a few minutes and that was it.
We have earlier seen negative transgender characters and it has been discussed that it shows them in a wrong light. So, were you not hesitant before taking up the role that your character might create any controversies?
No, because this series is mostly inspired by true incidents. So, of course Inspector Avinash had encountered someone like Devi; maybe not exactly like Devi, but to some extent. So, the character is inspired by a real character. So, there’s no question of controversies. Apart from that, maybe she is negative for the cops and the world, but not for his own friends and family.
