During a recent interaction with Rohan Mehra, the actor talked about his experience shooting with the cast, audience reaction towards his character and much more.
How has been the response for the show? You’ve been getting very positive responses for your character of Subendu Mukherjee. How does that feel?
It feels great. You put in so much hard work in the preparation of the character and you’re also playing a character which some people see as risky for my career because I’m playing three different decades and I’m a young actor. The love and appreciation that I’ve been getting for it has been very fulfilling as an actor. It’s really motivating for you to work more.
When this character was offered to you, what made you say yes?
I think the character was written very well. The fact is that the characters are in three distinct ages and it wasn’t just going out and playing an old man. If it was just playing an older character I would’ve been more apprehensive about the work but the fact is there are three different ages to show on a large scale, which was very exciting and on top of that the reason for me was that Bejoy Nambiar was directing it so I knew that it would be handled with a lot of sensitivity and each age would be shown very well and i know wouldn’t feel like I’ve made a bad decision.
Take us through the shooting process, how it was collaborating with the bunch of talented people and especially working with Bejoy Nambiar?
I am quite alone in the show. In a lot of my segments I’m hiding from society. I didn’t have many scenes with the very talented cast but the few scenes I had with them were great. I had great conversations with my co-actors. We always spoke about the craft that’s subtle and very professional. It wasn’t really games and fun as such but it was very thrilling and encouraging for one to bring out the best kind of work one can. Working with Bejoy was I think some of the most favourite times because he puts so much trust in you as an actor, he lets you take the character where you want. A lot of times, I felt that he and I had the exact same idea about what this character should be and having that trust from your director always gives you a lot of confidence.
