MUMBAI: Karishma Tanna started her career as an actor with the TV show Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, and she has surely come a long way. The actress has featured in some successful films, and now, she is busy garnering praises for her performance in Scoop.
TellyChakkar recently interacted with Karishma and spoke to her about the response she has received for the show, if she feels that filmmakers couldn’t tap her talent and more...
While the show and your performance is getting an amazing response, what’s that one compliment that has stuck in your heart?
I read a lot of good compliments about me, but one was there which said, ‘it took this long for the industry to offer Karishma Tanna something of her calibre. From her journey as Indu from Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi to playing Jagruti Pathak, love her performance’. So, that I feel was a very good compliment, and like these there are many compliments. I am hearing such things about me for the first time, so for me it is overwhelming. Though I have been in the industry for a very long time, these compliments for my acting are new for me.

Do you think that filmmakers and even on people in TV failed to tap your talent?
I think there’s a right time for everything, maybe it was meant for me to get my due like this and what a due. If this is the start of my due, I don’t regret waiting for a long time. If people are recognising me as an actor from this project, I am okay with it.
Did you meet Jigna Vora in real life before starting the shooting of the show?
I met Jigna during the end of the shoot. Hansal sir was very clear that I don’t want to shadow or mimic anybody’s character or traits; I want you to make your own Jagruti Pathak’s traits. When I read the script, there were a lot of details mentioned in it about the character. So, for me, I just had to follow that and follow my instinct.
Scoop is directed by Hansal Mehta and it is based on Jigna Vora’s biographical memoir Behind Bars in Byculla: My Days in Prison.
