MUMBAI : There are times when some actors leave a mark with their characters and one of the actors is Lubna Salim who is a theatre, movie and television actress. Lubna is also the founder and producer for the theatre group ‘Essay Ensemble’.
She is majorly loved for her character of Leela from Baa Bahu Aur Baby, a Hats Off Production family drama which aired on StarPlus. The serial was loved by all and Lubna even won an award for it. Other than her performance in Baa Bahu Aur Baby, Lubna Salim has also given her acting contributions in serials like Bharat Ek Khoj, Ek Packet Umeed, Khidki, many more.
She has also appeared in movies like Just Married, OMG – Oh My God, Call For Fun and Gadar 2. Currently the actress can be seen in the StarPlus serial Teri Meri Doriyaann.

Other than movies and serials, the actress has also spread her magic on OTT platforms with projects like The Gone Game, Fittrat, Bhalla Calling Bhalla, Sandwiched Forever and The Aam Aadmi Family.
Talking about the Aam Aadmi family, the series and the actors are really adored by the audiences. Lubna Salim, who plays the character of Madhu, a housewife, plays her role so well that the audience feels connected to her.
The show has worked out really well and had 3 successful seasons. However, the 4th season of the show was released today.
In an exclusive conversation with Tellychakkar, Lubna Salim talked about audience expectations, her character development and much more.
Tell us about the audience expectations for the latest season.
To this Lubna Salim said that the show coming back after a gap of time means that the audience wants us back and they will love us even more this time. She added how the first season was about them establishing their characters, second season was about the daughter’s wedding and the issues around it, and in the third season culminated in Dadi’s death. Lubna also added that they took a certain amount of time to come up with seasons.
Tell us about your character and the new mission of going back to college. Was it difficult?
To this Lubna Salim revealed the connection between her real life and her character by saying that she finished her M.A. after her marriage. Lubna further said that she had just taken admission for M.A. right when she got married, within a year she had her son and she wasn’t prepared as she was pregnant. She used to go to the college with a huge stomach and her friends used to help her. In her second year, she used to go upstairs to give her exams while her sister used to handle her son who was then 1 year old. Lubna would finish her exam, come downstairs and feed her son. She added that she felt like she would fail but her husband supported her and pushed her ahead to give the exams. Lubna also added that when she told these things to the creators, they made a lot of changes in the episode.
What made you say ‘Yes’ for the character when you were approached for the first time?
To this Lubna Salim said that she wasn’t sure about the show and she refused to do it the first time but Apoorva Singh Karki, the director of the show was persistent and requested her to just read it once. However, after reading it once, she felt connected as a human and as a woman. She also added how they revealed later to her that they were looking for a mother figure who looks like someone who can scold and love too and they had an image of Lubna in their head which is why they were persistent. She also added how Mrs. Sharma became her life and that she got to learn so much from playing the character.
