MUMBAI: The Jengaburu Curse is an upcoming series which stars Faria Abdullah, M Nasser, Sudev Nair, and Makrand Deshpande. The series is directed by Nila Madhab Panda who has earlier made movies like I am Kalam, Jalpari, Kadvi Hawa, and others.
TellyChakkar recently interacted with Nila Madhab Panda and when asked about how he got the idea to make The Jengaburu Curse, the filmmaker said, “In India we are the first ones to make a cli-fi (climate fiction). So, the term cli-fi has a lot of meaning to it; it’s not that just for marketing we are saying that we have made a cli-fi. I would simply say that in Mumbai when the underworld was affecting the city, so many films about it came and then so many cop films came. So, now there’s something happening with all of us; day and night we are talking about temperature rise. Somewhere we all have come from a village background; we have seen how the world was peaceful and the ecosystem was proper.”

“Today, it is affecting all of us; there’s disease, temperature rise, flood. We are scared about these things. So, I thought who will tell the story about this and it is so important to tell the story. As a creator, I feel this is a very important story to tell, but how to tell the story of nature and mother earth, air and water. Then I build up this story based on a legend that there’s a tribe who prays to a mountain and suddenly someone finds something below the mountain and takes it out. So, this is a local story but it’s a global factor. The Jengaburu Curse can affect anything,” he added.
The series will premiere on Sony Liv on 9th August 2023.
