MUMBAI: Kalyug actress Smilie Suri is making a comeback with her OTT debut House Of Lies. The actress who won hearts in 2005 with Kalyug found it hard to get work after the movie and battled depression like a pro.
During an exclusive interview with TellyChakkar Smilie was asked whether topics like depression get more noticed when celebs like Deepika Padukone talk about the same. She was also asked when stars like her who do not have a big fan following whether such serious topics are given attention or not. The actress revealed, "Celebrities talk and bring things out in the open. My doctor was telling me that it was worrisome for them as the number of suicides go up. Children are under so much pressure. There are problems like anxiety and depression; so we like celebs if we get hurt we can talk about it as I am a celebrity and have access to the media. When a simple, middle-class child is anxious, he can't talk about it. As celebrities, it is our duty to bring it out. Tell every middle-class household to talk about it. Of course, with the amount of followers and people you have, there is a duty as an artist which has to be followed. Jim Carrey, Robin Williams had depression. Abroad it is treated normally".
Talking about the dark phase of her life- depression the diva revealed how pole dancing helped her cope with the same. "Post my divorce, the dark phase of my life was there. I had developed thyroid, things were not working out and one day I just broke down and I realised depression is what we all have to tackle. Treat it like diabetes, like any other disease. Deepika has been so open about it. It is a mental imbalance and you have to treat the chemical. Pole really helped me as you have to be in the movement. It is mind over matter, muscular coordination. I thought if I am feeling so empowered should bring it to India. All the other girls, women feel empowered and now there are so many pole schools".
