Madirakshi Mundle about the content that is popular in OTT, films: Most people like well-made escapist stuff, it isn’t called a dream on celluloid for nothing

Most people like well-made escapist stuff,

MUMBAI :There are talks about the brutality and violence being shown on screen, be it on OTT or films. Some examples would be Kashmir files, Delhi Crime, Talwar, Bheed, The Kerala stories and so on. While some enjoy the same, many don’t. Madirakshi Mundle, known for shows such as Jai Hanuman and Vighnaharta Ganesh, shares her opinion on violence, action and crime subjects dominating the screen.

“I don’t naturally gravitate towards that kind of content. I watch what my tastes dictate and also I watch shows based on recommendations of people around me in my professional circle,” she says.

Violence, action and crime subjects are dominating OTT and films. Reating, Madirakshi adds, “Depends on whether that is all you are watching. There are plenty of other genres and interesting content beyond these. Perhaps you are talking about content coming out of studios in India. There are only finite hours in a day and only so much you can watch. So what you think is dominating is also a result of your taste and content-watching preferences.

The common opinion is that audiences like such content. Madirakshi feels there is a reason why people like certain things more than others and so on.

“Most people like well-made escapist stuff. It isn’t called a dream on celluloid for anything. But obviously reality also is a feature in the movies and often a show or movie or web series comes along that really strikes a chord with the audience. There is a story people want to tell and cinema/entertainment is a means of expression. If the idea lands with the audience then it does not matter whether it is escapist or something based on real events. Obviously, the impact can be different. But at the end of the day people connect with stories,” she says.
